The Peace Committee Wangkhei Kendra Imphal on Sunday earnestly appealed to the public to cancel the Ningol Chakkouba celebrations this year in view of the prevailing situation in the state.
The committee feels it is inappropriate to hold Ningol Chakkouba celebration in the state this year amid such a critical juncture and prevailing unrest, stated a release. Numerous precious lives were lost and families, particularly in Churachandpur, Serou, Moreh, Kangpokpi, Sugnu and those in peripheral areas were immensely affected by the crisis, it stated.
It lamented over the sufferings caused by the violence and also shared the grief of all the displaced and affected victims. It pointed out the hardships endured by those seeking refuge in the relief camps and urged the public to extend solidarity to them by cancelling the celebrations this year.
It further stated that anyone deciding to hold Ningol Chakkouba celebrations this year will be considered an act of treason. It also urged those concerned to not hold any events in connection with Ningol Chakkouba festival such as fish and handloom melas etc.
