Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Unit, RIMS, Imphal in association with Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, NHM Manipur and Association of Surgeons of India, Manipur State Chapter jointly organised a continuing medical education (CME) cum workshop on paediatric cardiac surgery at Banting Hall, RIMS on Monday.
RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma inaugurated the CME programme, stated a release.
Speaking at the event, he disclosed that RIMS will be starting a new important milestone from Tuesday which will be followed by conducting two Paediatric cases of cardiac surgery for the first time in a government set up, it stated.
He lamented that even though RIMS is 50-year-old, there is a lack of manpower, it mentioned. However, RIMS has the best facility set up, he stated and added that RIMS have three cardiac surgeons by now which is very promising. He maintained that if the project is successful, RIMS will be able to provide free treatment for open heart surgery to the people of the state as well as the neighbouring states, it stated.
He appreciated all resource persons and team of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram for the support, it mentioned. He also thanked Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Professor N Sanjib Singh; Org Secretary, Professor Th Chito Singh and Dean Academics, Professor Brogen Singh Akoijam for their hard work, it added. He also wished the team of surgeons success for the surgery, it stated.
Deputy Director (Admn), RK Mecolt Singh, heads of Departments, medical faculty, principal, college of Nursing, invitees, officials, staff and students were present at the programme, it stated.
