The World Meetei Council (WMC) on Monday made a fervent appeal to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to send the required two reports for Meetei ST to the Centre without any further delay, considering the fate of the Meetei community, which is allegedly at stake.

WMC, in a release, expressed discontentment at the chief minister for allegedly sidelining the demand of the people to send the two reports to the centre till date. Such an act by the CM is delaying constitutional protection of the Meeteis, it accused.

It warned that Meetei’s identity will be extinct if the community is not included in the ST list before the 2026 delimitation, adding that it is only the last resort to save the Meeteis. The WMC also urged the government not to mislead the public from the burning issue by bringing up irrelevant matters like NRC and border fencing, it maintained.

It further mentioned that Wanoo Apunba Meira Paibi volunteers carried out a protest chanting slogans demanding ST Status for Meetei under the banner of WMC at Wangoo Laipham Chithek Leikai. The protest was led by WMC Manipur Unit President Urikkhimbam Kunjo Singh, executive member Ahongshangbam Dhiren and member Thoudam Dharmendra (Wangoo), it added.
