Chandel Ambush: CM N Biren strongly condemns 'cowardly attack' on Assam Rifles

The AR troops were ambused with IED bombs and fired upon while they were returning to their base at Khamtal village in Chandel area near the India-Myanmar border at around 8.30 pm Wednesday.

Manipur Chief Minister on Thursday expressed strong condemnation of the attack on 4 Assam Rifles men in Chandel district that claimed the lives of three AR personnel and injured six other security men.

"I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on 4 Assam Rifles in Chandel district. My heartfelt tribute to the 3 security personnel martyred in the attack.These bravehearts have sacrificed their lives to bring peace & harmony in this region. I share the grief of the bereaved families," the chief minister tweeted soon after the news broke.

The AR troops were ambused with IED bombs and fired upon while they were returning to their base at Khamtal village in Chandel area near the India-Myanmar border at around 8.30 pm Wednesday, police sources said.

In the attack, three AR personnel were gunned down on the spot while six other security men sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to a military hospital in the area, the police sources said.

The deceased were identified as Havildar Pranay Kalita, rifleman Methna Konyak and rifleman Ratan Salam, while the injured are identified as Sub S Haokip, Havildar Nitul Sharma, Vivekanan, Sandeeb Kumar and sepoy Anis Kumar (Army), the sources added.
