Former president of the Manipur People’s Party (MPP) Laitonjam Borojao on Monday alleged that the central government was behind the entire conflict in Manipur and that it was the centre’s responsibility to douse the crisis.

Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal, Borojao stated that the entire conflict could have been averted if the state authorities had taken preemptive measures beforehand.

“If the state government had addressed the ST demand by Meiteis on time, that could have aided in resolving the issue,” he said.

He pointed out that the government's failure to monitor encroachment by illegal foreigners was the primary instigating force behind the entire  conflict.

He questioned why the home minister is hot on his toes to implement NRC and start border fencing only after the violence erupted.

He further asked who was going to be held responsible for the deaths of hundreds and thousands of displaced people. Is Rs 10 lakh going to solve all problems, he asked.

He maintained that the BJP state government had completely failed and that the central government was the one orchestrating the entire conflict.

“The central forces brought in to mediate the crisis have remained mute spectators while the Kuki roamed freely,” he said.

He further stated that this was all because of the central higher ups and that it was time to root out the BJP government from Manipur.
