CCIAN Forum Peace Committee on Sunday provided relief materials to the village volunteers of Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung Bangla in Bishnupur district in continuation of extending help and support during the clash.
The committee extended food items which include rice, dal, cooking oil, clothes and other items. The items were handed over to the village volunteers in a relief camp opened at Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai.
Speaking at the distribution programme, committee convenor Angomcha Chingkhei appreciated the village volunteers for their dedication. Only unity can win us the war and we Meiteis should take a firm stand to save the territorial integrity of the state, he added.
Mutum Nanao, a village volunteer from Torbung Bangla, condemned the government for not taking up any steps for safeguarding the innocent civilians from the prevailing clash which broke out on May 3.
He added that people of Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung-Bangla have been living an uncertain life since the clash broke out and children’s right to education has been snatched away. It is impossible for the small group of men of Torbung Gram Panchayat to face the large number of people of Churachandpur district, he said.
He appealed to the government to deploy additional state forces in the conflict zone areas.
