As schools reopened on Wednesday after a hiatus of two months following the social unrest in the state, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that though it is a difficult phase for the people of Manipur, children should not be deprived of their right to education.
Taking to his Facebook page, the CM wrote, "As we opened the schools from (Class 1- Class 8 ) today, I’m happy to see our children back in schools. It’s been a difficult phase for the people of Manipur but we can’t let our children be deprived of their rightful education".
He further sought the cooperation of everyone in Manipur to maintain peace and let our children attend school without any disturbances.
Schools in the state were closed following the ethnic clash that broke out on May 3 with plans to reopen in June should the situation subsides. However, with the situation persisting, the date for reopening of schools was shifted from one to another with CM Biren announcing on Monday (July 3) that schools will reopen on Wednesday (July 5).
An order issued by L Nandakumar Singh, director of education-schools also stated, “In supersession of all orders issued in this regard, normal classes for Class 1 to 8 for all schools in the state, will resume from 5th of July, 2023 [Wednesday]. All zonal education officers under the department of education-schools, Manipur are hereby directed to inform all concerned and take up necessary actions accordingly”.
