A campaign on Enhancing Millets Production for Increasing Farmers’ income as a part of Mega Campaign Annadata Devo Bhava under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was conducted at Purum Chumbang village, Chandel on Wednesday.
The programme was organised by KVK Chandel, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre. While delivering the keynote address, head in-charge Dr Y Prabhabati Devi, SMS (Home Science) informed the farmers that millet is one of the important nutri-cereal which have high nutraceutical and medicinal value, and also a good source of fibre which helps in the reduction of colon cancer.
She emphasised that millet is also a good source of antioxidants which helps in fighting off free radicals and also helps to keep the body healthy. She encouraged the farmers to cultivate millets for health and doubled their income.
The resource person of the campaign SMS (Plant Breeding) Ts Leenda Monsang during the technical session, elaborated on millet varieties, seed production technologies and cultivation practices.
During the campaign, Sorghum variety CSV -27 seeds were distributed to the farmers.
The campaign was attended by president Vision 2020 Asia Beyond Network reverend Yulhung Halpu Chothe and Marim Rimdam Chothe, Selrung, Village Authority along with 47 farmers.
