CADA holds protest against liquor legalisation

CADA along with the locals of Takhel demonstrated a sit-in protest against legalisation of liquor in Imphal East on Monday.

Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) along with the locals of Takhel demonstrated a sit-in protest at the Ching Tam Community Hall of the Panthoibi Bazaar, Takyel in Imphal East at 11.30 am on Monday.

A release by CADA stated that CADA along with All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Takhel Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lup and CADA demonstrated the sit-in protest along with the locals against the legalisation of liquor in the state.

It maintained that Takhel Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lup senior Meira Paibi Leihaorungbam Bimola condemned the legalisation of liquor and stated that despite the diligent and persistent efforts of the Meira Paibi of Takhel, the menace of liquor still haunts Takhel. She added that the locals of Takhel will not accept the liquor legalisation, it continued.

The protesters displayed placards which read ‘No liquor legalisation in Manipur’, ‘Withdraw the cabinet decision’ and ‘Save the Manipuri people from liquor’, it added.
