The Tengnoupal Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled cross-border smuggling of drugs at Mobile Vehicle Check Post, Tengnoupal on Friday and seized brown sugar worth Rs 4.32 crore.
During routine checking of vehicles, the troops of Assam Rifles recovered 2.163 kg of brown sugar packed in 49 soap cases in a white Bolero at Mobile Vehicle Check Post, Tengnoupal, a release by PRO IGAR (South) stated.
The drugs were concealed under the middle seat of the vehicle. The seized narcotics were estimated to be worth Rs 4.32 crore, it added.
The recovered drugs alongwith the smugglers and the vehicle were handed over to Tengnoupal Police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Churachandpur Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) under it's Assam Rifles Civic Action Programe and as a part of Ex- serviceman rally conducted a Medical Camp at Ngurte village, in Churachandpur district on Saturday.
A release by PRO IGAR (South) has said that in continuation of its efforts to improve mutual trust and to maintain peace and harmony in the region while simultaneously addressing the medical requirements in the underdeveloped villages, a medical camp was organised for locals of Ngurte village.
A total of 102 villagers were examined during the medical camp and essential medicines were distributed to all affected people.
The villagers were also briefed about the ill effects of drugs and importance of hygiene and sanitation in daily routine to avoid unwarranted diseases.
Special focus was given on educating the villagers on contagious diseases during winter season and ways to prevent them, the statement added.
