Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh of BJP retained the MLA seat of Heingang AC for the record fifth time, defeating his rival INC candidate P Sharatchandra by 18,271 votes.
Of the 31,596 total votes cast in the constituency, Biren bagged 24,814 votes (78.54 per cent), while Sharatchandra received 6,543 votes (20.71 per cent), and 239 votes fell under NOTA.
Of the 10 ACs of Imphal East, BJP bagged seven MLA seats while NPP, INC and JD-U bagged one MLA seat each. Altogether 2,272 voters cast their votes to NOTA where 239 received in Heingang AC, 167 in Khundrakpam AC, 238 in Kshetrigao AC, 119 in Yaiskul AC, 97 in Keirao AC, 112 in Lamlai AC, 169 in Khurai AC, 674 in Thongju AC, 337 in Wangkhei AC and 120 in Andro AC.
The remaining six winning candidates of BJP are Works minister Th Biswajit of Thongju AC which received a total of 15,338 votes, CAF and PD minister Th Satyabrata of Yaiskul AC which received 9,724 votes, MLA L Susindro of Khurai AC which received 11,131 votes, MLA L Rameshwor of Keirao AC which received 17,335 votes, former minister Th Shyamkumar of Andro AC which received 16,739 votes and Kh Ibomcha of Lamlai AC which received 10,105 total votes.
The candidates of INC is MLA Th Lokeshwor of Khundrakpam AC which received 12,211 votes, NPP candidate is Sheikh Noorul Hassan of Kshetrigao AC which received 13,118 votes and the JD-U candidate is Th Arunkumar of Wangkhei AC who received 11,593 votes.
Notably, Sheikh Noorul Hassan and Arunkumar who contested election for the first time defeated their rivals who were sitting MLAs.
After the declaration of the election result, all the winning candidates visited the office of their respective ROs located at the Imphal East DC complex and collected the certificates.
