Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is also NPP national president on Friday said that his party is truly dedicated to the people of Northeast and called upon people in Manipur to come together in unity under one political platform - National People's Party.

"The people of Northeast and Manipur can show that we can compete with any other states and country if we all unite under one political platform, (NPP) which is truly dedicated to the people of Northeast,” said Sangma while addressing the “One-Day Political Discussion”.

The programme, organised by NPP Keishamthong unit, was held in connection with the ensuing 12th Manipur Assembly Election at YLL Ground in Imphal West.

Sangma urged the people to imagine having 24 MPs from the Northeast from a single political platform.

“What is that we cannot do in Parliament if the 24 MPs raise their voice together on behalf of the Northeast people?” he questioned.

The big difference with NPP and other political parties is that members of the NPP never considered themselves as party members but a family, he added.

The national president pointed out that the ensuing election is the right time to take a stand to make Manipur, a progressive and a strong state in all aspects by choosing the rightful candidates.

“As the BJP betrayed its promises made to NPP before the formation of the coalition government of Manipur in 2017, the government faced a lot of challenges and difficulties and it was unstable,” he said.

There is a need to have principles with respect, dignity and involvement of all parties in order to run a successful coalition government, he said, adding, “I know it as I am running a coalition government in Meghalaya. Here in Manipur, the BJP ruined it.”

Reaffirming that the NPP will emerge as the single largest party, he assured the NPP will be taking a crucial role in the formation of a new coalition government in Manipur.

“Let us raise our voice, show our will-power and win the election to deliver the rights and dignity to all the citizens of Manipur,” added Sangma.

MLA L Jayantakumar who is also a candidate of Keishamthong assembly constituency alleged chief minister N Biren of instigating government officers to organise BJP meetings in various locations of Keishamthong assembly constituency.

“Has my friend Biren forgotten the Do and Don'ts of the election model code of conduct? If so, I humbly remind him that such an act is against the law,” he added.

The function was also attended by deputy chief minister Y Joykumar, Health minister of Meghalaya James Sangma, national and state leaders of NPP among others.
