The bankrupt and overdraft BJP government has cheated the people of Manipur yet again with false promises by bringing out a hollow manifesto, All India Congress Committee (AICC) election observer Jairam Ramesh said in Imphal Thursday.

Addressing the media at the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee conference hall in Imphal after the BJP election manifesto was released, Jairam Ramesh, who is overseeing the Assembly polls in Manipur, accused the BJP of lying in its election manifesto of 2017.

The Bharatiya Janata Party misruled the state by keeping it under darkness for the past five years, the AICC leader alleged.

Urging the people of the state to analyze the difference in the manifestos of the Congress and that of the BJP, Ramesh pointed out that there has been no official notification on recruitment for 7.5 vacant posts in the entire government departments of the state in the last five years.

The BJP government promised to provide 1.5 lakh employment every year through different government departments, he said.

“The Finance department has been copying and pasting by changing figures for every year in all the annual budgets and Economic survey of Manipur, and fooling the public. The state government has no vision for the better financial health of the state in the last five years,” he alleged.

Almost 89 per cent of the annual state budget is dependent on the Central funding for the last five years, he said, adding that the financial growth of the state is slowing down in making any development in the future.

Despite the recommendation from the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) to the BJP government to lift the disturbed area status from Manipur, the BJP misruled the state by stating that the state government should urge the Centre to repeal AFSPA, he alleged.

“It has retrospectively imposed AFSPA in the state. Both the Centre and state BJP governments failed to provide constitutional and legal protection to the indigenous people of Manipur,” he said.

Regarding Manipur Public Service Commission, Ramesh said that despite having two retired lieutenant generals of the Indian Army as its chairman, MPSC has become a complete failure in the last five years by not holding a single recruitment examination for civil services in Manipur, he further alleged. He assured that the MPSC examination will be held every year if the Congress forms the government.

Jairam Ramesh also said that the BJP’s misrule has dishonoured the Constitution of India on the floor of the House in the Manipur Legislative Assembly during the no-confidence motion, which was passed without voting on division, despite being demanded by the opposition Congress in the house.

The highest number of legal cases against the speaker, who is also a BJP MLA of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in the apex court of India and the High Court of Manipur, took place in the last five years of BJP’s misrule, he further said.

Drug crimes have increased during the five year’s BJP rule; gold smuggling and the political nexus on the issue have been kept hidden and no investigation has been done, he further said.

The infamous ‘Go to Hill’ of the chief minister of Manipur is popular but there is no new infrastructure development of civil secretariat, district police headquarters, district courts complexes of the newly created hill districts of Manipur, he claimed.

Despite having Aautonomous District Council (ADC) bodies in the hill districts, the ADC elections are being put on hold by the BJP state government, thereby taking away the local democratic representation for inclusive development in the hills under the BJP misrule, Ramesh said.

Ramesh asked JP Nadda of the BJP party to look at a survey report of the independent organisation of Bangalore Public Affairs Sector of 2021.

“The report shows that Manipur ranked at bottom in small states. The double engine BJP government for five years had cheated the people,” he added.
