Coming down heavily on the BJP with series of allegations, the Congess party has termed the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the Naga Peace Accord signed between the Centre and the NSCN-IM as a mockery to the Naga people and peace process in the Northeast. The BJP has destroyed the future of the hill districts in Manipur, it said.

"The BJP destroyed the future of the hill districts by not holding ADC elections," said Manipur in-charge of AICC Bhakta Charan Das, in a press conference held at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal West prior to the announcement of the silent period of the second phase election in the state.

The BJP is indulging in “organised violence” and suppression of democracy to capture power through all illegal means to intimidate electors and to compromise and influence the elections, he charged.

The BJP government in Manipur filed NSA and sedition cases against journalists and to those who criticize them, he said.

“This is why the BJP leaders are not committed to remove AFSPA from Manipur,” Das said.

Accusing the BJP government as the mastermind of all the mega-drugs scandal, Das said there is an intimate relationship between the ruling BJP government and drugs mafia as they gave their tickets to so many people accused in drugs cases in Manipur.

If the BJP continues to remain in power, they will continue their business with the drug mafia and eventually destroy the future of the youth of Manipur, he said, adding, “it is the need of the hour to fight together against the drugs mafia and the BJP to save our future generations in the state.”

The voters of Manipur cannot be lured by fake promises and propaganda of the BJP, as people had witnessed more than enough of the guff of the BJP, added Das.

On behalf of the Congress party, Das pledged to introduce highest MSP for rice, end shortage of urea, repealing of AFSPA, holding of ADC election within six months, transform horticulture, agri-business, installation of food parks, abolish the new pension scheme and reinstating to old pension scheme for social security among others if Congress returns to power.

For a new progressive and peaceful Manipur and to save democracy, constitutional and fundamental rights of the people, the AICC leader begged the public to vote for the Congress party which can restore the real value of Manipur and its people.
