Congress Legislative Party leader Okram Ibobi on Thursday said the era of dictatorial form of government by a king has ended and a democratic form of government has started but the present BJP-led coalition government is giving priority to giving publicity instead of listening to the voice of the public.

Ibobi, former chief minister of the state, was speaking during a one-day block-level political conference held at Takyel Kolom Leikai ground, Imphal West.

The former chief minister said that during the dictatorial form of government, a king had to rule in his own way but now, with the coming of democratic form of government, the people’s voice plays a great role in the formation of the government.

Therefore, during the Congress rule in the state, being a chief minister, he was very cautious while giving any assurance at public platforms, Ibobi said.

“As a CM during the Congress rule, I would worry if we would be able to fulfil assurances or not. Therefore, we did not simply give assurances. However, the present government is simply giving assurances on public platforms just to get applause without thinking if it would be able to fulfil it or not,” said Ibobi.

Ibobi maintained that the Congress shied away to get political mileage by shouting about the contributions and achievements it made but that the present government has been shouting at every platform for the achievements brought during their tenure. The achievements of a government are to be heard from the public, he added.

Ibobi further said that in the coming Manipur Legislative Assembly election, 2022 the people are going to see a political change with a Congress government or a Congress-led coalition government.

Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam said the present government is governing as ‘Contractor Raj’ and ‘Supply Raj’. People need to be cautious as it is a crucial period for the state and there is a fear that Manipur history may be changed with the influence of the BJP government, he added.

It is unfortunate that the BJP government is trying to change history and are trying to get fame against the developments and the developmental works brought by the then Congress government, he added.
MLA of Patsoi assembly constituency, AK Mirabai, who is also a Congress intending candidate, also spoke on the various developmental works carried in the last five years stating that they were started by the Congress.

President, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), N Loken; former Lok Sabha MP, Th Meinya; working president, MPCC, T Mangibabu and others attended the programme.
