As the BJP is gearing up to form the new government in Manipur for the second term. BJP Central leaders will be visiting the state in two to three days to assist in the state government formation, state BJP president A Sharda Devi said Friday.

Speaking exclusively to the Imphal Free Press, Sharda said as the BJP had got absolute majority with 32 seats in the recently held state Assembly elections 2022, there is no need to form the government in haste. However, according to reliable sources, the BJP is in full swing to form a new government by March 14.

When questioned about the new chief minister face of Manipur, Sharda said the Central leadership will decide the face of the new chief minister.

“It will be decided by our high command as BJP is a national party… we will be following the discipline, policy and decision of the high command of the party.”

Decisions for making alliances with other political parties will also be taken by the high commands, she said. She, however, emphasized the state party’s decision to leave out the NPP in government formation. “The BJP is unlikely to make any further alliance with the NPP,” she said.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the NPP for causing unrest during the five years’ tenure of the coalition government led by the BJP in Manipur, she said that due to their unsupportive act, the government faced much hindrance in taking up developmental activities and caused delay in many welfare projects, she added.

N Biren, who resigned as chief minister on Friday after receiving his victory certificate on Thursday at the Imphal East DC complex, told mediapersons that even after getting absolute majority, the BJP will go together with like-minded parties, but not with NPP.

In an interview to the NDTV, Biren also declared that BJP will be in coalition with the Naga People’s Front (NPF), which was also in coalition with the BJP during the last government.

Many of the winning candidates before the announcement of the election had also flown to the national capital to meet their Central leaders personally begging for ministerial posts, said sources.

Confirming the submission of letters of pledges to the BJP by the two candidates, president of BJP Manipur Sharda said other than the two independent candidates none of the parties had approached for alliance with the BJP.

Altogether three independent candidates won seats in the 12th Assembly Election of Manipur. The other independent candidate who has still not supported BJP is J Kumo Sha of Karong AC.
