The first-ever Birth Waiting Home in Manipur was successfully launched at Community Health Centre, Saikul in Kangpokpi district on Friday.
The launching of the birth waiting home at CHC Saikul was graced by Dr Meena Seram, State Nodal Officer, Maternal Health, NHM Manipur in the presence of Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip, CMO Kangpokpi, Dr John Lupheng, MO i/c CHC Saikul, apart from Th. Prabhabati Devi, DPM, NHM Kangpokpi, Sribash, Consultant, MH, doctors, and staff of CHC Saikul, AFs under CHC Saikul.
Speaking at the function, Dr Meena Seram highlighted that with the launching of the Birth Waiting Home at CHC Saikul, birthing facilities in the health centre would be more accessible to pregnant women from remote and far-flung areas under CHC Saikuk by providing accommodation facilities in the health centre and wait for the onset of labour.
She continued that pregnant women from remote and far-flung areas would be made to stay in the Birth Waiting Home 7 to 10 days before their expected date of delivery and they would be provided a free diet during their stay apart from providing free pick and drop facility.
“The launching of Birth Waiting Home will increase institutional delivery which is the safest for pregnant women and the baby”, the State Nodal Officer, Maternal Health, NHM Manipur added.
Dr Meena Seram also appealed to the staff of CHC Saikul and the District Health Society to ensure the success of the Birth Waiting Home initiative and assured to extend necessary help from the state.
CMO Kangpokpi, Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip thanked the State Health Society, Maternal Health Division led by Dr. Meena Seram for prioritizing Kangpokpi district in the implementation of the scheme and also appealed to continue supporting the district and the CHC Saikul in particular concerning the maternal health programmes.
The CMO Kangpokpi also assured to ensure success in the implementation of Maternal Health programmes in the district.
