‘Bamboo plants need to be preserved’

A training on development of bamboo crates organised by Tamenglong Bamboo and Cane Centre, TAMBAC was launched in Tamenglong district headquarters on Tuesday.

DRDA Tamenglong project officer Acham Rongmei on Tuesday said that Tamenglong district is blessed with God’s natural gifts including plenty of bamboo but the people still need to preserve them and plant more bamboo saplings.

He was speaking as a chief guest during the launching of training on development of bamboo crates organised by Tamenglong Bamboo and Cane Centre, TAMBAC at Zeliangrong Evangelical Fellowship, Tamenglong.

He said that one raw bamboo costs more than Rs 700. If value is added, then it will cost more than Rs 1,000 per, he added.  Encouraging the trainees, Acham Rongmei said that making of crates requires speed and maintenance of aesthetics.

“Let us make Tamenglong more developed in terms of industrial production, and the training programme should be an opportunity to make yourself become skilful,” he added.

He also said that to be successful in the future, small steps are required every day and one should make the best of the day by doing something worthwhile.

Tamenglong Bamboo and Cane Centre director Nehemiah Panmei mentioned that Zeliangrong people inherited a rich culture of traditional crafts making, but the traditional art of making crafts is dying out.
He mentioned that Tamenglong district is blessed with natural resources in abundance and the art of crafts making will enhance the livelihood in terms of economy.

If the trainees have skills, then they can be placed to work at the Tamenglong Bamboo and Cane Centre, he added.
