Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday announced that awards for entrepreneurs of the state under the state government will be launched next year in recognition of their contribution to the state's development.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the newly constructed UNACCO school, a residential co-educational school at Chanung, Imphal East.

The chief minister further revealed that a five-star hotel will be constructed in the next two-and-half years under the state government. A civil service coaching institute with expert faculties from across the country will also be constructed shortly, he added.

Biren pointed out that Manipur will not move forward without the support of entrepreneurs and highlighted that the state government had allocated Rs 100 crore to provide financial assistance to budding start-ups in Manipur.

“The state government alone cannot usher allround development in Manipur, it is vital for state and private sector to strive collectively in this regard,” he said.

Biren maintained that growth of private sector across the country in recent years had fostered invigorating development in the economic and defence front. The infrastructural growth in Manipur is born out of the said collective effort, he added.

“Entrepreneurs must maintain high standards and quality to ensure steady growth for posterity,” he said.

On the other hand, the chief minister highlighted that the ultimate objective of education is to inculcate patriotism and strengthen one’s love for his native land and people. He stated that the embodiment of such sentimental values will foster true peace and development in Manipur.

“The entire education system should be scrapped if it fails to invoke love for the people, for the state and the country,” he said.

The chief minister mentioned that the forefathers who did not have access to any of the modern amenities dedicated their lives for the welfare of the land. Such unwavering dedication is the need of the hour, he added.

“Schools, colleges and guardians should also impart values of patriotism to their students and wards,” he said.

Biren also maintained that the country would not be able to assert itself on the global stage without proper emphasis on the education sector.
