Audio-visual documentation on rehabilitation of IDPs released

The pilot project on ‘Documentation and Rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons of Manipur in the Present Crisis (2023)’ includes recorded testimonials and interviews of conflict victims which the department filmed from July to September, 2023.

The audio-visual documentation and report of the pilot project on ‘Documentation and Rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons of Manipur in the Present Crisis (2023)’ was released at Manipur University on Tuesday.

The project was conducted under the Department of Mass Communication, Manipur University.

Vice chancellor of Manipur University, professor N Lokendra released the documentation and report at Manipur University. The pilot project was launched on July 16, 2023.

The project includes recorded testimonials and interviews of conflict victims which the department filmed from July to September, 2023.

The testimonials and documentaries were filmed by the 4th and 2nd semester students of the department of 2021-2023 and 2022-2024 batch.  

In total, 76 testimonials of internally displaced persons from different parts of the state are included in the project along with six documentaries out of which two documentaries were filmed by the 4th semester students as part of their practical assignments.

The project also includes footage shot by relief camp inmates who recorded the daily lives of inmates at the camp.

To do so, inmates interested in smartphone filming were trained and provided with smartphones and requested to document the lives of the people.

Speaking on the occasion, N Lokendra asserted that the project would serve as a crucial historical record for researchers, historians, and citizens interested in understanding the tragic consequences and human suffering inflicted by the crisis.

Meanwhile, MU registrar W Chandbabu  exuded confidence that the documentation will add to the knowledge repository for future research and records.

Dean of the School of Social Sciences, MU, professor Th Purnima and professors of Mass Communication department, MU along with other staff of the university were present during the release function.

The documentation is available at Mass Communication Department, MU for reference both in hard copy and audio-visual format, with english subtitles and translation.
