Attack on EPC contractor camps in Churachandpur

"Miscreants looted and torched around 40 heavy vehicles and the entire EPC contractor camp in Churachandpur, resulting in the loss of all government documents related to the ongoing project.

Unidentified miscreants looted and torched the EPC contractor camps set up for the construction of NH-102B at Khuangging and Maukhat villages in Churachandpur district, Manipur, sources said on Saturday

As many as 40 heavy vehicles at Maukhat and 15 heavy vehicles at Khuangging on were torched, and both the camps were looted and totally burnt down by the miscreants on Friday midnight, resulting in the loss of all government documents related to the ongoing project, according to separate releases issued by GPT Infraprojects Ltd and Bharat Vanijya Eastern Private Ltd on Saturday.

The project staff at the EPC camps in both the villages had to move out of the camp towards the forest to save their lives, the releases stated, adding that the plant and machinery at both the camps were totally vandalised. The store materials and office items like cement, steel, diesel, LPG cylinders, laptops or computers, printers, scanners, and other communication devices were looted and torched at both the camps, the releases stated.

The release issued by Bharat Vanijya Eastern Private Limited mentioned that the project work of widening two-lane with hard shoulder of Churachandpur to Tulvai section of NH-102B from km 32.835 to 48.587 (Package-2A) and km 48.587 to 69.875 (Package-2B) in Manipur on Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode' was awarded to Bharat Vanijya Eastern Private Limited and NHIDCL.

The contract agreement between NHIDCL and the contractor was signed on May 30, 2020, and July 19, 2020, respectively, the release stated, adding that the agency had set up its camp for the construction of NH-102B at Maukhat village of Churachandpur district.

GPT Infraprojects Ltd also mentioned in the release that the widening of two-lane with hard shoulder of Churachandpur to Tuival section of NH-1028 from Km 118.850 to 130.000 (Package-4A) & Km. 130.000 km. 141.029 (Package-48) on EPC mode was awarded to GPT Infraprojects Ltd vide letter no. NHIDCL/Manipur/Ccpur/ Pkg-4A/2020/E-180381, dated: 31.03.2020 & NHIDCL/Manipur/Ccpur/ Pkg-4B/2020/E-18645, dated 01.07.2020. The Contract Agreement was signed between NHIDCL and Contractor on June 30, 2022 and July 28, 2020 respectively.

The agency had set up its camp for the construction of NH-102B at location chainage Km 128+380 in Khuangging village of Churachandpur district, the release stated.

"The EPC contractor has suffered major loss due to ongoing riot-like situation. Fear and the ground condition the labor and staff are in constant fear and most probably would move out of the project and the whole project would be affected and need a complete remobilization," the releases by GPT Infraprojects and Bharat Vanijya Eastern Private Limited stated.
