ATSUM calls off agitation after agreement with state government on ADC elections

The state government has decided to announce the election notification of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) on or before May 5, 2021, so that the elections are completed by June 25, 2021.

The All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has “decided to call off the ongoing agitation” following an agreement arrived at during the Wednesday meeting between the student body and the Manipur government.

The state government has decided to announce the election notification of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) on or before May 5, 2021, so that the elections are completed by June 25, 2021, according to the agreement.

This agreement was signed on behalf of the state government by Letkhogin Haokip, Additional Chief Secretary of Tribal Affairs and Hills, Government of Manipur, while from the tribal student body’s side, it was signed by Vanlallian Khaute, vice president of ATSUM, SR Andria, General Secretary of ATSUM, Paotinthang Lupheng, president of KSO-GHQ and Peter Wanglar, president of ANSAM.

Minister Letpao Haokip, minister Losii Dikho, minister Vungzagin Valte and officials of Tribal Affairs and Hills department, government of Manipur also took part in the meeting, according to ATSUM leaders.
