The proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) on Sunday urged all to wear masks and maintain COVID-19 SOPs while taking part in the observation ceremony of ‘Athoubasinggi Numit’ (Martyrs’ Day) which falls on Tuesday.
The organisation pays homage to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the self determination movement on the arrival of the day, stated a release issued by deputy secretary publicity Roben Khuman. RPF also genuflects in reverence to the ones who met their demise after facing torture and oppression from the enemy, and those who were left permanently disabled during the war of independence, it stated.
The day in which many revolutionaries laid down their lives during the ongoing self determination movement of RPF and its military wing PLA, is remembered annually on April 13 as ‘Athoubasinggi Numit’ (Martyrs’ Day) with participation from all communities by coming at the memorial site and offering of floral tributes, it stated.
RPF further urges all to light up candles at their gates as a part of the observation and avoid taking part in festivities on the day, it added.
