Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande calls on Governor, large-scale combing operations launched in Manipur

The Army and Assam Rifles have launched multiple search operations in areas of Kangchup, Motbung, Saikul, Pukhao and Sagolmang areas of Manipur in the wee hours of May 27.

The Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande and Lt General RP Kalita GOC in-charge called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan to discuss and deliberate on the prevailing situation in the state.

A release issued by the Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Saturday stated that the Army Chief met with the state governor to discuss and deliberate on the current situation and future trajectory in order to restore normalcy at the earliest.

Owing to the internal security situation in Manipur, the state administration had been helped by additional security forces to diffuse the situation by carrying out active domination of vulnerable and fringe areas, it stated.

It maintained that the meeting discussed the prevailing situation and security measures which are put in place to contain any violent and major untoward incidents in the state.

It further stated that the governor had conveyed the suggestions and complaints from various delegations of political parties, CSOs and victimised sections of the society to the Army chief.

The governor instructed to bring the prevailing situation of the state to normal swiftly, it added.

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of recent spurt in violence, the Army and Assam Rifles launched large scale combing operations in vulnerable flash points as well as at the higher reaches surrounding Imphal valley.

The twitter post of SpearCorps.IndianArmy posted on Saturday that Army and Assam Rifles have launched multiple search operations in areas of Kangchuk, Motbung, Saikul, Pukhao and Sagolmang areas of Manipur in wee hours of May 27 to track down any armed insurgent operating in the areas.

It also posted that the operations are part of overall ongoing efforts of the Army and Assam Rifles to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

Army columns are using the latest technology weapons, equipment and other force multipliers while operating in the forested mountainous areas.
