The Assam Rifles on Sunday refuted the allegations raised by the NSCN (I-M) of collaborating with KNA (B) in the killing of Honpam Chithung in Myanmar on February 10.
Public relation officer, HQ (IGAR) South issued a rebuttal apropos a news item published by a local daily regarding the allegations of Assam Rifles based at Phaikok collaborating with KNA (B) in said the killing, stating that NSCN (I-M)’s allegation for the death of an individual (in NIAs most wanted list) in a foreign territory on communal affinity reflects clear ulterior motive to malign the image of Indian Security Forces.
Honpam Chithung of Harkui Kathe Tang, Ngaprum, Kumrum under Phungyar Police Station in Ukhrul district) figures in the list of ‘Most Wanted’ of National Investigation Agency (NIA), it stated.
The person was wanted in NIA case No. RC-05/2018/NIA/GUW (State Police FIR No 11(5) 2018 dated 22.05.2018 of Ukhrul Police Station, Manipur), it mentioned. As per credible inputs, the individual was also an arms supplier of NSCN (I-M) and was killed inside Myanmar on February 10, it mentioned.
It is a matter of great concern that an Indian citizen who was in the wanted list of NIA was found in foreign territory (Myanmar), it stated.
The circumstances clearly show that NSCN (I-M) wants to create an environment of distrust in Ukhrul and Kamjong areas, it mentioned. Such irresponsible allegations clearly indicate towards NSCN (I-M) harboring and abetting anti-national elements, it added.
