Appeal for peaceful Christmas

The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) on Sunday appealed for a reflective and peaceful Christmas celebrations in Manipur, urging the Christian community to tone down celebrations this year in view of the prevailing tense situation in the state.

AMCO expressed grief over the sufferings and hardships caused by the prevailing conflict and appealed to the Christian community to donate the expenses to the affected victims instead, stated a release.

It reflected on the Christian teachings and further proposed various symbolic acts for Christmas including candlelight vigils for peace, inter-ethnic community prayers, charity drives for affected families and quiet reflective Christmas services.

It also appealed to all the denominational churches and Christian brethren for their support and cooperation. It wished that the festival mirrors the teachings of Jesus and emphasize collective aspiration for peaceful and harmonious Manipur.
