Anusuiya Uikye sworn in as 18th Manipur governor

Anusuiya Uikye took oath as the new governor of Manipur at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday.

Anusuiya Uikye was on Wednesday sworn in as the 18th governor of Manipur at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Council of Ministers, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata Singh, chief secretary Rajesh Kumar, DGP P Doungel and senior officers.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered by the acting chief justice of Manipur High Court justice MV Muralidaran. The appointment letter of Anusuiya Uikey as the governor of Manipur by President Droupadi Murmu was read out by chief secretary Rajesh Kumar during the oath-taking ceremony.

After the oath-taking ceremony, the new governor inspected the guard of honour inside the Raj Bhawan and also interacted with the chief minister, cabinet ministers and other officials.

Anusuiya Uikey arrived in the state on Tuesday afternoon following her appointment as the Governor of Manipur. 

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ceremony, Anusuiya Uikey thanked the President and the Prime Minister of India for giving her the responsibility to serve as the Governor of Manipur.

She also expressed her gladness to experiencing the beautiful and rich biodiversity of Manipur.

Acknowledging the immense growth of Manipur during the regime of the incumbent chief minister, she assured all round development of Manipur including education and employment sector by collaborating with the CM and his cabinet colleagues.

Informing that she served as the Governor of Chattisgarh, which has a tribal population of 32 per cent, for three years, she assured to give all her efforts like those given in Chhattisgarh for the welfare of the people.

She also said that appointing her as the Governor of Manipur is a step towards empowerment for the women of India which is also the vision of the PM.

Anusuiya Uikey was appointed as the new Governor of Manipur by the President of India on February 12, succeeding La Ganesan, who was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.

She is a senior leader of the BJP and the former governor of Chhattisgarh. She had also served as an MLA and a Rajya Sabha MP of Madhya Pradesh.

She has completed her MA in Economics and holds an LLB degree and is also an agriculturist and a social worker.
