The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), noting the alleged inadequate enforcement of the ILP in the state, on Friday called for stringent implementation of ILP in the state and to remain vigilant over the same exercise.
The association unanimously resolved to press the issue during its presidential council meeting held at ANSAM Secretariat, Tahamzam (Senapati) on Thursday, stated a release of the association.
It expressed concerns over the unauthorised extension of the specific period of time frame of ILP and unabated influx of illegal immigrants in Manipur and Northeastern Hills. The same poses a grave threat to the identity, traditions and culture leading to societal destruction which could potentially turn the indigenous people into refugees in our own state, ANSAM asserted.
ANSAM directed its units to stringently monitor the implementation of the ILP in their respective jurisdiction and implored the various stakeholders and public to support the association’s endeavours in safeguarding the indigenous people in the state, their land and culture, it stated.
It further acknowledged the State Government’s endeavour to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system regulating the inward travel of an Indian Citizens visiting the state for different purposes over the years by issuing travel documents for specific periods of time.
It added that ILP stands as the significant document in regulating and monitoring the inflow of tourists and controlling the influx of illegal immigrants to safeguard the interests of the indigenous inhabitants and protect the identity and culture.
