AMWJU female journalists set-off Sikkim tour

The team which includes 19 female journalists was flagged-off from Manipur Press Club, Imphal West by MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand on Monday morning.

As an initiative of women empowerment, female journalists of Manipur affiliated to the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) led by its president and secretary set-off for a five-day tour at Sikkim to explore the current affairs of the state.

The team which includes 19 female journalists was flagged-off from Manipur Press Club, Imphal West by MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand on Monday morning.

The female journalists of Manipur are well talented in terms of their skills and writings and have been taking a big role as a fourth estate of the democracy, said president of AMWJU W Shyamjai while briefing to the media.

During the trip, the team will be exchanging their experiences with the members of Sikkim Journalists’ Union and reporting on the initiatives taken up by the Sikkim government in all aspects, including education and agriculture sectors, he informed.

On the way, the team will also be meeting with the president of Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU) and his team which is presently stationed at Dimapur, he added.

Such an initiative for women empowerment will be a great opportunity for female journalists to get exposure by interacting with people from outside the state, said Minister Khemchand.
