All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) on Tuesday condemned the rampant surge of gun culture in Manipur and demanded the state and central authorities to stop such hostile build up.
“The government should step down if it is not able to uphold the principles of democracy,” the group stated.
Speaking to the media at AMKIL office in Imphal, AMKIL president Lourembam Ngangbi stated that the people were yearning to unite and firmly take a final stand amid the conflict.
“But the election has become a stumbling block in this quest. It has pitted us against each other,” she said.
She alleged that the state government was intentionally stacking the women folks against each other for their own measly interest.
This has created the facade of disunity among the people, she added.
She noted that such hostile actions were unbecoming of a democratic republic and maintained that the people would rise in revolt if authorities failed to douse the situation timely.
AMKIL also paid floral tribute to images of martyrs on the auspicious occasion of Khongjom Day.
