The All Manipur Contractor Forum (AMCF) has appealed to release pending fund for PMGSY at earliest to complete road construction work taken under Phase I and II of PMGSY on set timeline of September 2022.

During a press conference held at Manipur Press Club on Saturday, AMCF Convenor Thangjam Somorendro said that due to non release of fund by state government for PMGSY even after government of India had sanctioned the fund, lots of hindrances are being faced in road construction works which are being taken under this scheme.

If the flow of construction work goes at this slow pace, the project will not be completed in time and this will create huge lost to contractors as their funds will not be received, he added.

He further said that government of India had released an amount of Rs 183.50 crore on September 27, 2021 as fund for PMGSY. As per norm, the released fund should be deposited to Manipur State Rural Road Agency by state government within 15 days of release from government of India. But the state government transferred the amount only on December 28, 2021, he added.

Because of late release of fund, the money was insufficient to proceed in construction work, he added.

He further said that following clearance of fund by state government to agency, government of India again released another fund  with an amount of Rs 183.50 crore. But till date the state government hasn't deposited it to agency, he said, adding that the government of India has released around Rs 750 crore for PMGSY so far but the state government never release the fund on time to agency.

The contractors are unable to continue the construction work due to fund crunches, he said and appealed the fund be released on time so that the project would be completed on time and another phase III of the scheme would be provided.
