Ak Nonganba JAC holds protest rally in Kangpokpi

The court remanded accused Moses Gonmei in police custody till February 28 and Sonia till February 27.

The JAC against the brutal killing of Ak Nonganba along with the womenfolk of Changoubung took out a protest rally in Kangpokpi district headquarter on Friday.

Placards that read “we condemn brutal murder, we condemn Dumping of Dead Bodies in our area" were displayed by women protestors of Changoubung.

Meanwhile, the protestors tried to throng the court complex of Kangpokpi after hearing that the two main accused NSCN (I-M) Deputy Kilonser Moses Gonmei and Thokchom Sonia will be produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class Kangpokpi.

However, Kangpokpi police who were on alert in and around the court complex foiled the protestors’ attempt.

Later, the rally continued from the court gate and ended at the waiting shed near Thomas ground by shouting various slogans.

It may be mentioned that the court remanded Deputy Kilonser Moses Gonmei, to police custody for 11 days after he was arrested from his village on February 13. Th Sonia was arrested from IT road bazar on February 17 after which she was remanded to police custody for seven days.

On Friday’s hearing, the court remanded Moses Gonmei in police custody till February 28 and Sonia till February 27.

In a late development, Tuilongkun Area Women’s Association member Mary demanded that the accused person must be arrested by March 15, failing which a bandh will be imposed along Imphal-Dimapur highway.
