Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra on Thursday said that the party is expecting reforms to strengthen it after the AICC presidential election in October.

He was speaking to the media after flagging off delegates from Manipur for participating in the party's 'Mehangai Par Halla Bol' rally to be held in Delhi on September 4.

As many as 94 delegates from Manipur left Imphal for Delhi on Thursday. He also announced that some other delegates will also leave for Delhi in the coming days.

The MPCC president further highlighted that the protest march 'Mehangai Par Halla Bol' will be taken out to break the “deafening silence” of the BJP-led government against the skyrocketing of prices of various commodities, including food items and petroleum products.

He added that the Congress party will make the government act to ease the plights of the common people with a series of protests that will follow against inflation, price rise and irrational levying of GST on various items.

Responding to queries by the media in the wake of the Congress party receiving major blows with resignation of senior members recently, Meghachandra mentioned that the party is positive about the upcoming Congress president election in October bringing positive changes to the party.

He exuded confidence that the party will strengthen itself with reforms within the party and at the grassroots level after the election.

He said that the election will be held in an entirely democratic and free and fair manner. It will be the first time such democratic election is held by any political party, he added.
