Barely as few days after Heirok MLA Th Radheshyam resigned from the post of advisor to chief minister citing lack of responsibilities, another state MLA Karam Shyam on Monday resigned from the post of chairman, Manipur State Tourism Development Corporation.

MLA Karam Shyam submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday.

The resignation letter read “I tender my resignation from the post of chairman, Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited as I have not been assigned any responsibility as a chairman”.

Both Th Radheshyam and Karam Shyam were Cabinet ministers in the previous BJP-led government under Chief Minister N Biren Singh till they were shunted out in a mid-term reshuffle.

The resignation letter of Karam Shyam went viral on social media along with a video clip elaborating the reason for the resignation.

In the video clip, he expressed that “a leader should be committed and sincere instead of threatening the followers. If such threats occurred frequently then an eruption of a revolt among the followers is a must.”

“Manipur is becoming a corruption-free state but, in corruption, only the giver and the takers will know,” Shyam said.

In the video clip, he also expressed that he was not given any responsibility for being chairman of the Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited. And Shyam said he is not competent for the post of chairman so he submitted the resignation letter from the chairman’s post to the chief minister.

Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam Singh had voiced a similar disappointment with the leadership in his resignation letter.

In the resignation letter, he said, “I have not been given any responsibility so far. I would like to contribute and focus on the Lok Sabha election 2023 and developmental works in my constituency”.

On the other hand, some BJP MLAs are camping New Delhi and meeting Central leaders and voicing their disappointment with the state leadership as to lack of decentralization of power among ministers and MLAs.

A Facebook post by Union DONER Minister BL Verma showed MLAs Th Radheshyam and Karam Shyam meeting him alongwith two other MLAs from Manipur.

The other two MLAs are chairperson of Manipur Development Society, Paonam Brojen of Wangjing Tentha and chairman of MANIREDA, Khwairakpam Raghumani Singh of Uripok assembly constituency. Sources said, they are also likely to resign.

Meanwhile, Sagolband MLA RK Imo Singh posted on his Facebook wall which read, “Who doesn't want to be a CM or a minister? Every MLA does, but there is a time, place, and moment for all things. Some are lucky to be a minister the moment they get elected the first time, some are not so lucky to be a minister or chief minister even after winning 3/4/5 times. If one keeps sulking after every ministry reshuffle or government formation, democracy and government can never function properly. It is nice to dream big and have ambition, but if you are over ambitious, you tend to fall. Think bigger and for the larger cause of the people.

"When one is a minister, he smiles and laughs, and the moment he stands removed or isn't a minister, he starts dissenting and giving statements questioning the leadership. Think bigger and for the larger cause of the State.

"So should we all write to our PM to amend the constitution to allow all MLAs to become ministers at one go, even if they are given half a department? Think bigger and for the larger cause of the Nation.”
