Illegal structures over a suit land that has been under a court case for over 50 years was demolished by five teams of commando Imphal West on Wednesday morning.

A police report stated that the commando teams led by superintendent of police, Imphal West, S Ibomcha Singh carried out the demolition without any disturbances.

The suit land had an area of 0.06 acre covered by C.S. Dag number 615 corresponding to patta number 212 (Old) and 201 (New) situated at Revenue Village number 11, Laipham Siphai, Imphal East, vide order No DJ/IE/22-23 dated 31/03/2023 of the Bailiff, District and Session Court, Imphal East.

It stated that the demolition work started at 3 am and it was completed at 5 am.

The said land was owned by one late Maibam ongbi Mukhi Devi, and the local club of the area had been illegally utilising the land over the last more than 50 years, as per the report.

Authorities had made several attempts to demolish the illegal structures several times but due to the obstructions by locals and appeals made to the court caused the demolition work to be suspended from time to time.
