Following the declaration by Kakching DC Somorjit Salam on Tuesday that African Swine Fever (AFS) have been detected in pigs from Kakching Moirangthem Leikai, the community on Wednesday buried seven pigs along with those from across Kakching river.
The pigs were buried at the dumping site of Kakching Municipal Council.
According to reports from the district veterinary hospital, Kakching, veterinary officer Dr Sh Brojendro along with the staff buried the pigs.
After the burial, Kakching municipal council caretaker chairperson Naorem Sanjitkumar appealed to the public to dispose of infected pigs in a proper manner. If one does not find a proper burial place, they may approach the district veterinary hospital or the Kakching Municipal Council for such, he said.
He further appealed to the people to refrain from dumping the pigs in the river or local drain and warned that action will be taken as per law to those who do so.
