Additional CEO of State Level Nodal Agency for Watershed Management, Planning department, Manipur Rajkumari Sunita Devi attended the recently held 9th International Conference on Water Resource and Environment (WRE 2023) in Matsue, Japan.
She attended the conference held from November 21 to 24 as an invited speaker and session chair, stated a release.
The topic of her presentation was ‘Towards effective Geospatial Techniques for Watershed Management - A Case Study from Manipur, India’, it said.
The paper was co-authored by PS Singh of NESAC, ISRO, L Ramananda Singh and L Kuseshwor of MARSAC, it stated. Sunita’s paper focused on use of geospatial technologies for delineating various thematic layers like geology, hydrogeomorphology, drainage, land use/land cover and watershed in 8-digit codification, which paves way for further research on carbon sequestration and carbon footprint assessments within the forests of Manipur for climate change studies, it asserted.
On her deliberation, Sunita highlighted on the PMKSY 2.0 WDC programme of the department of Land Resources Government of India and how it is being successfully implemented by the Planning Department, Government of Manipur for water resources management and water security in rural Manipur for irrigation and domestic use, it mentioned,
She chaired the session for ‘Environmental Protection & Waste Utilization’ in which there were 12 speakers from various countries, it said. She also presented the best paper award to Xue Li of Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, University of Macau, China on her paper ‘Application of Solid Waste in Foam Concrete’, it stated.
Various professors and scholars from Japan, Taiwan, China, Hongkong, Macao, Turkey, India, Croatia, UK and Canada also attended the conference jointly organised by Saga University, Matsue, Japan and University of Taiwan, it added.
