83-year-old man rescued from militants

Suspected militants looted the house of an 83-year-old man, destroyed some properties and carried away four cows and some goats in a village in Imphal West.

An 83-year-old man who was allegedly abducted by suspected militants from a farm house in Chirik Loitong village, Imphal West, has been rescued by the police with the assistance of the villagers of Mapao Khullen and Khongnangpokpi Kom villages on Thursday.

During the abduction process, the militant group, suspected to be under SoO, had reportedly looted the farm house, destroyed some properties and carried away four cows and some goats.

According to the police, the man identified as Kshetrimayum Manihar Singh, 83, from Leikinthabi Awang Leikai, who was staying alone in the farmhouse at Chirik Loitong, was abducted by around 10 armed militants who were coming down from Thingsat Kuki village on Thursday’s noon.

Soon after receiving the information, a police team led by Imphal West SP S Ibomcha with support from the neighbouring villagers rushed to the area and successfully rescued the man from the hand of the militants. However, there were no reports of any arrest of the militants.
