55 acres of poppy plantation destroyed

A total of 55 acres of poppy plantations were destroyed by a combined team of Imphal East district police assisted by NAB, Forest department and BSF during a two-day poppy destruction drive in Kamu Ching, Bongyang Hill range.

A combined team of Imphal East district police assisted by NAB, Forest department and BSF along with executive magistrate destroyed a total of 55 acres of poppy plantations during a two-day poppy destruction drive in Kamu Ching, Bongyang Hill range.

Police reported that on Monday the combined team destroyed about 26 acres of poppy plantation. And on Tuesday, in continuation of the drive, the same team, which was stationed at Maphou dam police station, destroyed another 29 acres of poppy plantation at the same hill range.

A regular case has been registered for further investigation.

The total poppy cultivated areas destroyed on Monday and Tuesday is 55 acres, the police said adding that the District police Imphal East will also continue to survey probable adjoining areas and effort will be made to arrest illegal poppy cultivators.
