As many as 105 stranded labours in different locations of Ukhrul district were given safe passage on Wednesday by a combined team of state and Central forces under the initiative of Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeshwor, sources said.
The stranded labours where reportedly assembled from different locations of Ukhrul district since the last four-five days.
The sources said that the returnees were felicitated by the MLA at Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel in Imphal. They were sent back to their respective residences, after being verified by the police.
For the successful mission of safe passage, the MLA extended gratitude to the Assam Rifles, the Manipur Police, bus drivers, former Ukhrul MLA Alfred Arthur and one Boiboi from Khundrakpam who led the stranded labours.
Speaking to the media, Lokeshwor said that in this present scenario of the state, all legislatures need to work collectively, leaving their party aside.
Stating that the government without the initiative of the CSO leaders will not be able to restore normalcy, he appealed to all the CSOs and community leaders to give their best to restore normalcy in Manipur.
Expressing concern over the sufferings of the daily wage earners who are majorly in the rural areas, the MLA also drew the attention of CAFPD minister to ensure that they get sufficient ration and do not starve.
Pointing out that food is the main essential for survival, he expressed apprehension of an outbreak of further civil war for shortages of food items if the public are left with no money and option to get or buy ration.
