One month long 100th birth anniversary of Khaidem Pramodini organised by LEIKOL (Leimarol Khorjeikol), Imphal kicked off on Wednesday at Manipur Dramatic Union, Yaiskul Imphal.
Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Convenor professor Rajen Toijamba appreciated the organisers for remembering the renowned writer. He said, “We can change our society if writers like Pramodini emerge in the state.”
On the occasion, LEIKOL president Kshetrimayum Subadani said that Leikol which is an only women organisation would not have been formed if not for the roles taken by the renowned writer Khaidem Pramodini.
She added that Pramodini served as the first editor of Leikol and she also wrote more than 40 books during her lifetime which greatly helped in uplifting the Manipuri language and literature. Leikol has been organising the event every year in memory of the noted writer, she added.
Art & Culture Department Deputy Director G Dharmadas Sharma said that the Art & Culture Department has been taking up welfare schemes under Chief Minister gi Artistsingi Tengbang (CMHT) Scheme. Sahitya Akademi Award winners have been granted with a prize of Rs 1 lakh and Yuva Puruskar awardees were also granted with rupees 50 thousand each to encourage them, he added.
