In the wake of the recent clash between the Indian and Chinese troops at Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh on the India-China border that claimed several lives on both sides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for an all-party meeting at 5 pm on June 19 to discuss situation.
The call for the all-party meeting came on Wednesday few hours after Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the prime minister’s silence on the “violent faceoff” between the two forces that claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers while China suffered 35 casualties as per official sources.
"In order to discuss the situation in the India-China border areas, Prime Minister @narendramodi has called for an all-party meeting at 5 PM on 19th June. Presidents of various political parties would take part in this virtual meeting," the PMO tweeted.
On Tuesday, the Indian Army said in a statement that 20 Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed on Monday night in the biggest ever military confrontation between the two armies since 1975. The Chinese People's Liberation Army reported 35 casualties, sources said, citing US intelligence reports.
India's Defence Minister also tweeted in early in the day: "The Nation will never forget their bravery and sacrifice. My heart goes out to the families of the fallen soldiers ...We are proud of the bravery and courage of India's bravehearts".
Reacting to the situation, the opposition had demanded details of the faceoff from the government. Questioning the prime minister's silence, Rahul Gandhi had said that the country needs to know the truth about the situation.
