Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away Monday at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram. He was 82, party sources said.
The Samajwadi Party confirmed the news in a Twitter post in Hindi.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was undergoing treatment at Gurugram's Medanta Hospital, where he breathed his last. The SP leader was admitted at Medanta Hospital in August and was moved to the hospital ICU on October 2 after his health deteriorated, sources said.
According to party sources, the last rites of Mulayam Singh Yadav will be held at his ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh, Safai, with full state honours.
Meanwhile, a three-day state mourning has been announced in honor of the departed leader, the sources said.
