1,396 Indians brought back home safely from Ukraine: MEA

As many as 1,396 Indians have been brought back home to India safely from Ukraine in three days, the Union External Affairs Ministry informed on Tuesday. It said that six evacuation flights carrying the 1,396 Indian nationals have landed in India.

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, said the goverenment is continuously monitoring to expand the evacuation process. 

"1,396 Indians brought back home safely from Ukraine in three days. Continuous monitoring is being done by Modi Government for expanding the evacuation process through #OperationGanga," Goyal tweeted.

Stressing that every Indian matters, the Union minister tweeted: "Every Indian matters. Govt's rescue mission in Ukraine under #OperationGanga is in full swing".

Of the six flights under Operation Ganga, four left from Bucharest, while two flights departed from Budapest, the MEA said.

Meanwhile, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed on Tuesday that the ninth flight under India's Operation Ganga carrying 218 Indian nationals onboard departed for New Delhi from Bucharest. He said the Indian Government will not rest till all fellow Indians in war-hit Ukraine are safe.

“We will not rest till our fellow Indians are safe. Ninth #OperationGanga flight departs Bucharest for New Delhi with 218 Indian nationals,” Jaishankar tweeted.

Hundreds of students are stranded in Ukraine in the wake of the country being attacked by Russia since Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

The Government has set up 24x7 control centres to assist the evacuation of Indian nationals from Ukraine through border crossing points with Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovak Republic, official sources said.
