Would love to sing to Manipuri folk music: Ananya Birla

Ananya Birla desires to promote various forms of folk music of the country, especially Manipuri folk music, to the international arena.

Indian pop singer Ananya Birla on Tuesday said that if given a chance to sing her song to Manipuri folk music, it would be one of the best experiences of her music career.

During an interaction at mansion HVS located at Patsoi, Imphal West, the 28-year-old singer said music is a universal language and it is one of the most effective mediums to connect people. In the present scenario of music, folk fusion is becoming a trend and she would like to include folk music in her upcoming songs, including Manipuri folk music, she said.

Ananya has recorded over 35 English songs, mostly written by her, including 20 per cent of her songs in Punjabi and Hindi.

“I wanted to promote the various forms of folk music of the country, especially Manipur to the international arena in order to make the people aware of the softness of folk music”, she said, adding that “music is the only language that can connect everybody”.

With regards to choosing Manipur for her debut performance, she said, “There are many listeners of her songs from Manipur and that may be because most of her songs are in English language and that the people of Manipur understand the value of an artiste.”

The multi-platinum and award-winning artiste (Ananya Birla) of Better, Meant To Be fame is in Manipur to perform headline act for MLTR at HVS ground, Patsoi, Imphal West on Tuesday.

Not only Ananya is an Indian woman English singer but also, is an entrepreneur. She is the founder of Svatantra Microfin, a company that provides microfinance to women in rural India. She also launched the Ananya Birla Foundation to support mental health, equality, education, financial inclusion, climate change and humanitarian relief efforts.

Ananya appreciated the hospitality of Manipur and the regards that is given to an artiste, whether male or female, without any discrimination. She said she will be waiting for another opportunity to come to Manipur and explore the state for its rich cultural heritage, music and others.
