Now, cancer patients can get treatment at lower cost in Manipur

Pointing out that cancer cases is increasing in Manipur, former Manipur Health director Dr K Rajo said that with the change of lifestyle, climate change, pollution, consumption of highly fertilized vegetables, fruits, cancer will increase in the coming days.

Former Manipur Health director Dr K Rajo Singh said that life-threatening cancer cases will increase in the years to come, but people in Manipur can now avail treatment for the illness in the state at lower cost compared to other private cancer hospitals.

"Manipur does not have any government cancer hospitals and as such, patient’s families used to suffer a lot to get treatment outside the state.... But now, as the treatment is being taken up in a partnership model, the charges of treatment would be lower compared to other private cancer hospitals," Dr K Rajo said.

Karkinos Healthcare North East Pvt Ltd has ventured into cancer treatment in the state in collaboration with the government of Manipur.

"The hospital will also provide the same standardized healthcare service provided like other institutes operating in other states of India," he added, while addressing the “Basic screening and risk assessment booth on cancers” event at Khwairamband Bazar, Ima Market on Monday.

According to the 2015 World Health Organisation report and 2016 ICMR report, 60 per cent of total population of the country died of non-communicable disease which includes diabetes, hypertension, kidney failure and cancers of various types, Dr Rajo said.

Pointing out that the number of cancer diseases is increasing in the state, he said that with the change of lifestyle, climate change, pollution, consumption of highly fertilized vegetables, fruits, cancer cases will continuously increase in the coming days.

Organised by Karkinos Healthcare North East Private Limited, the event was also attened by director and CEO of Karkinos Healthcare North East Private Limited, Dr (prof) GS Moirangthem; and SP of Imphal West Ksh Shivakanta Singh.

Among the others present were assistant municipal corporation of Imphal Municipal Corporation, Ksh Gyanendra Singh; president of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham amadi Saktam Kanba Lup, Ksh Santi Devi; president of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup, M Radhesana Devi and secretary of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup, Ch Ibetombi Devi.
