The festival venue will have around 100 stalls showcasing indigenous handloom, handicrafts and food of Manipur, Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh, it said.

Besides organising four promotional events (Singju Run, Friendly Football Match, Tree Plantation and Singju Cycle Rally), the festival will be holding a total of 26 main events which includes cultural show, indigenous sports, Miss Singju, musical nite, symposium on medicinal plant, competitions for children among others.

Announcing the festival on Sunday at Manipur Press Club in Imphal, adhyaksha of Imphal East ZP P Bimola, who is the chairman of the festival, said the main objective of organising the festival is to preserve and promote the indigenous medicinal plants which are the composite of ‘Singju’, a traditional food of Manipur.

She pointed out that ‘Singju’ is a great symbol of unity as it consists of plants grown in hills, valleys, water and underground. She further stressed the need for maintaining unity among the different ethnic groups like a ‘Singju’ in order to head towards a progressive society.

She stated that the festival was kept on hold for almost two years due to Covid pandemic. She appealed to the people of Manipur to support the festival and be a part of it and refrain from calling any sorts of bandh, strike or blockade during the 12-day festival.
