In a groundbreaking achievement, Ton Laimujam, a transwoman hailing from Chajing in Imphal West, was crowned the winner of the prestigious ‘Trans Elegance of India International 2023’ beauty pageant.
The event held at Lemon Tree Hotel in Pune, showcased the beauty, grace, and talent of transgender individuals from across the country.
Ton Laimujam, born to L Kalanjoy and L Ongbi Shanti Devi, represented Manipur in the competition and captivated the audience with her exceptional skills and charm. In addition to clinching the coveted title, Ton also secured the "Best Rampwalk" subtitle, further solidifying her triumph.
As part of her victory, Ton Laimujam was bestowed with the honour of becoming the brand ambassador of Starfair, a prominent organisation promoting inclusivity and diversity.
Expressing her gratitude, Ton spoke to the media and conveyed a powerful message of encouragement to the transgender community.
"Let this achievement be an inspiration to all members of the trans community in pursuing their dreams," Ton said.
Acknowledging the complexities faced by transgender individuals in society, she urged them never to give up on their aspirations. "It is time to show who you are, who I am. So, don't hide yourself, come out, and show who you really are," she encouraged.
By attaining this prestigious title and assuming the role of a brand ambassador, she aims to create greater awareness and foster acceptance for transgender individuals throughout the country.
