Summer vacation preponed amid unrest in Manipur

The Manipur government has preponed summer vacation of schools from May 4 to May 30, and for the university, from May 15 to June 5.

Amid the prevailing unrest in Manipur, the state government on Tuesday announced the summer vacation of schools from May 4 to May 30, and universities from May 15 to June 5.

Addressing the press conference held on Tuesday at DIPR office located at Keishampat, Imphal, Education Minister Basanta Kumar said the summer vacation has been preponed from normal calender in view of the prevailing situation in the state. 

Minister said that there is an information of an obstacle at national highway while transporting goods into the state. But it is yet to be confirmed.

He clarified that ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs to a victim family is for damage or needs, not for constructing house.

Saying that aerial or drone surveillance is continuing, the minister appealed to other parts of the country for relief materials.

IPR Minister Sapam Ranjan also spoke at the press conference. He said that measures are being taken up to bring normalcy in the state from every sectors of the state, including stakeholders.

A total of 216 FIR have been registered and 247 arms and 4,679 ammunition surrendered, he said.

The minister appealed for more surrender of arms and ammunition that were snatched from the security forces.

According to him, the number of stranded people at relief camps are reducing. He said 4000 of them are in relief camps. A psychological counselling is being given to stranded people at relief camps, he said.  

Saying that curfew relaxation is being extended and no major violence occured, he appealed to all to bring peace in the state at the earliest.
