Students taking the class 12 board examination for MIL subject under the Council of Higher Secondary School Manipur (CoSEM) at the ACME Higher Secondary School at Yairipok, Thoubal district vandalised the examination centre, sources said.
According to sources, some students of Azad Higher Secondary School, Yairipok taking the CoHSEM exam for MIL subject at the ACME Higher Secondary School pelted stones and vandalised the properties of the centre after the invigilators forbid them from using unfair means during the examination.
The students damaged the school properties, including infrastructure, desks and computers and damaged a few vehicles parked at the school campus, as per sources.
“Many teachers and students were injured during the eruption of violence,” it stated.
It mentioned that as the situation went out of hand, the Yairipok police station arrived and brought the situation under control. The injured teachers and students were rushed to the Yairipok CHC to administer first aid and were discharged shortly.
Meanwhile, student organisations, including AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, condemned the incident and called for a “strict exemplary punishment” against the students involved.
A release jointly issued by the students’ organisations stated that as soon as the organisation heard of the incident, their representatives arrived at the centre to bring the situation under control. It added that six student bodies will commence strict inspection and urged the authorities concerned to take up necessary action.
